Kristen Pavlik (RYT 200) completed her yoga teacher training at the Yoga Center in Columbia. She came to yoga from a history in martial arts and involvement with other active sports.
Kristen is deeply grateful she has been able to develop a better knowledge of her own body and her inner beauty and spirit through yoga. She has been practicing hatha and anusara yoga since 1999, and has never felt better or more at peace with herself. Her teaching style is playful and energetic, a style that allows students to find peace in a hectic world, while strengthening their bodies, enriching their hearts, and following their hearts while allowing their spirits to soar.Pat Barnes has been teaching Yoga for over 3 years, after completing the 200-hour certification from Yoga Alliance. She has taught students ranging in age from 3 to 85, individually and in groups. She has studied with world-famous Yoga teachers including Judith Lasater, Donna Farhi, Gary Kraftsow and Mikunda Stiles. Her style is influenced by Iyengar and vinyasa traditions.
Pat is also an occupational therapist with over 25 years of experience with issues such as arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, cancer, stroke, MS and brain injury. Whether working with patients in a clinic or teaching Yoga students, Pat infuses her sessions with humor and compassion. She believes in linking movement with breath to relieve pain and increase positive energy, as well as to connect with the spiritual realm.
Her area of special interest and experience is in healthy aging. Teaching children brings joy and enthusiasm, which spills over into sessions with adults experiencing more serious health issues. Pat recently attended the first annual Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research, and will provide a therapeutic form of Yoga when indicated.
Pat’s
students report that her classes feel like spa sessions, since she pampers them
with blankets, bolsters and eye pillows, in a setting with soft music and candles.
Pat replies that the enjoyment is mutual!
April Bruce began practicing Yoga to relieve physical pain and discomfort as a result of an automobile accident. In addition to pain relief, Yoga has continued to provide a level of heightened self-awareness, which guides her through her daily life.
April received her RY200 Certificate (by the Yoga Alliance) with Senior Iyengar Yoga Instructor Bob Glickstien at the Columbia Yoga Center in the year 2004. Her Yoga training includes workshops with Roger Cole, Judith Lasater, Doug Swenson, Ravi Sighn & Shakta Kaur Khalsa.
Her teaching emphasizes correct posture and attention to detail necessary to perform the exercises properly, in order to achieve optimum benefit for her students.
Her love of life and positive playful attitude brings enthusiasm and humor to the classroom. Her maxim is “Live, Love, Laugh and Breathe.”
Nina Deane, after many years of attending Yoga classes, wanted to deepen her understanding and expand her practice in order to share her Yoga experience.
She completed her Teacher Training at the Yoga Center of Columbia, becoming a Registered Yoga teacher with a 200 hour certification. She is now thoroughly enjoying sharing the pure pleasure and health benefits of Yoga with her students. The joy she receives from her students’ success is apparent.
Nina teaches
Hatha Yoga with special attention to the individual needs of students. Her classes
emphasize relaxation, stress reduction and health awareness. She combines techniques,
movement and poses from several Yoga traditions, and encourages her participants
to engage in home practice, to realize the full benefit from her classes.
Michelle Hecht trained at the Columbia Yoga Center with Joe Roberson, Cathy Donelly and Bob Epstein. She received her Yoga Alliance RYT 200 certification in 2004. She has also received training and certification to teach Yoga to the Special Child. Her students’ ages range from 6 to 101. She teaches 7 to 10 classes a week, from Children Classes, to Power/Flow Yoga, to Geriatric Chair Yoga.
Michelle’s
teaching style is Hatha Yoga with emphasis on breathing and proper alignment.
Her students enjoy the individual attention she gives, and the fact that she adapts
her classes to her students’ level. They enjoy the feeling of success they
achieve, along with a feeling of rejuvenation, and take some of the techniques
they have learned home with them to improve and benefit their daily lives.
Vickie Jacobs, began her fitness career in 1996 and currently has certifications in Body Training, Pilates, Primary Aerobics, Resistance Training, Senior Fitness and Water Aerobics.
She continues to challenge herself by designing and teaching fitness programs for senior citizens of all fitness levels. She has taught in over 5 different senior facilities.
She spends much of her time working through the Arthritis Foundation to provide arthritis sufferers the opportunity to exercise and increase their mobility. This work required certification and training in the P.A.C.E. (People with Arthritis Can Exercise) program and A.F.Y.A.P. (Arthritis Foundation YMCA Aquatics Program), which allows her to teach water aerobics.
Vickie
also enjoys leading weight training and toning classes, as well as working as
a Personal Trainer.
Lisa Kirshner has been a fitness enthusiast for over 20 years, and has worked with resistance and personal training for over 10 years. She specializes in strength training with both women and teens, and agility and sports related training.

Their success is also hers. She teaches privately, as well as in group settings. She holds a B.A. in Marketing from Temple University and a N.S.P.A. Certification in Personal Training.
Her three children, 11, 14 & 18 are all active in sports.

She is certified with ACE (American Council of Exercise), Power House Pilates, Aquatic Alliance International, the Arthritis Foundation, to name just a few. She believes that it is never too late to recognize that exercise can be fun and become part of one’s lifestyle, and refuses to take NO for an answer. Her message is always: Be encouraged – it’s never too late to start!
Her teaching has taken her from DC to New Jersey,
and throughout Maryland. Many people have crossed Patty’s path – from
doctors, clergy, senator’s wives, to children in the deaf community. She
spent 25 years teaching in the Special Populations Arena.
Her knowledge
is vast, and her enthusiasm is contagious.
Patty is the mother of 5 daughters
– 13 grandchildren – 8 great-grandchildren.

his experience with cancer, and soon after attended the Baltimore School of Massage,
thus starting a second career. She has her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from
Marquette University. Sue has been married for the past 26 years and has two children.
Jennifer Stukey completed her Yoga teacher-training program at The Columbia Yoga Center in 2004, and is a registered Yoga teacher through the Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level (RYT200).
Jennifer’s classes masterfully blend her knowledge of Chinese medicine and acupuncture, the ancient healing philosophies, with the art and science of hatha Yoga. She emphasizes correct alignment and form, using proper physical postures and breathing techniques. Jennifer’s dedication and joy is beautifully transmitted to her students as she leads them through the creative exploration and awareness of their bodies, using the postures of Yoga. Her training with teachers from the Iyengar and Anusara traditions creates a balance of heart-centered expressions and anatomical precision.
Jennifer wishes to acknowledge her teachers: Bob Glicksien (Founder of the Columbia Yoga Center), Joseph Roberson, Kathy Donnell (Director of The Columbia Yoga Center), Judith Lasater, Barbara Allen, Kim Manfredi (Founder of Midtown Yoga), and her current teacher Eric Reid.

Kathy Crosland began practicing yoga over 15 years ago, initially to help heal a back injury. As love for the practice grew, she felt a need to deepen her understanding of yoga and later completed a 10-month (RHY200) Yoga Teacher Training program at the Yoga Center of Columbia in 2004. She has been teaching yoga ever since. With a background in western medicine and eastern healing arts, as a nurse and acupuncturist, Kathy weaves knowledge and wisdom from both traditions into her classes. She passionately believes that a regular yoga practice cultivates a greater sense of self-awareness, which in turn helps one to navigate life's challenges with a greater sense of ease and well-being.
